Subject: People trying to sell stuff using this website
Hi everyone, I've just been busy deleting a few threads from our board that have been posted by companies selling pills and potions that are supposed to help or even cure arthritis. I just want to draw everyone's attention to the text at the top of this page. "Please remember that this is a space for people with arthritis to make contact with other people in the same situation. It is not a place to sell stuff or to promote any particular product or service. We will remove messages that we feel are not appropriate for this message board." I know some people may feel like in doing this we are denying people the opportunity to hear about something that may help their arthritis but people with arthritis are constantly bombarded with adverts for products which (if you believe the hype) will help or even cure arthritis without any side effects - it is impossible to know which are of value and which are just another 'snake-oil' product designed purely to take money from people desperate to find relief from a very difficult disease. For this reason we have had to take the decision not to allow any advertising of this kind. Our forum is here simply to give people a space to support one another through day-to-day struggles with arthritis. If we allowed people to use this forum as free advertising for their products it would turn into something else very quickly and would put people with arthritis off posting on the site as they do.
