Hi Steven!
That sounds pretty shitty. Im 24 so know what its like to be young and broken! How long have you had it? Ive had RA since 6 yrs old so 18 yrs now. I have approx 18 yrs of joint damage with very little meds (I refused to take MTX when I was young and no one ever told me how bad the disease could get). What sort of meds do you take? Id love to hear your opinions on the whole thing too : ) Just write what youre thinking/feeling. It can be a great help to release the frustrations that arthritis brings.

hi does it get hot and swollen or just stiff and painfull . the more y go back to doc the more they do for u i know it silly but if they give u meds and u do not go back they think all is well if things r very bad ask for hospital app. if u have not had one they do opperate on younger people when things r bad i know they try to put it off as long as they can. exercise does help keep the muscles strong and it does help the joint stay straight. if i stay in for couple of days mine gets very painfull and takes a walk to get it going again it finding the balance that works for u as u prob. know do not let them fob u off if things bad go back there r lots of meds out there that jill will tell u about good luck

I wonder if Steven would benefit by asking for an appointment with the Rhuematologists ? If you havn't already been there Steven it may be more helpful as they do blood tests etc. And they may be able to give you better pain control ? My GP said that those TENS machines are good for OA and sciatica has anyone got experience of these please ? as I'm thinking of buying one.

Hi Steven, My rheumatologist offered me hip replacement but then contradicted herself and advised strongly against it lol. I think they have to advise against it because we are young but this doesn't mean you can't have it done. If youre in enough pain they'll do it for you. I think you have to insist that its the right thing. Im hoping to find out if theyl refer me tomorrow so finger crossed.
Congratulations on the baby by the way!

Hiya Kayjay, Yes I have a tens machine, I have RA, and I have used it many a times on my shoulders and back and knees, and I think it has helped me.
Its only a little thing, I got it from Loyds chemist, itwas not expensive either money well spent, and yes hopefully it might help Steven to.

hi it is so crappy having it at a young age im 23 and have suffered for many yrs but was told it was growing pains for 3 yrs edventually i almost crawled kinto the doctors surgery in complete agony crying my eyes out that he had to admit it wasnt growing pains he then passed me on to a specialist. i have been seeing him for the past 3 yrs. it took time to find the right meds that helped control my ra but it is slowly getting better i have steriod injections every 3months in my hips there great for the pain my specialist has also given me celcoxib a strong painkiller that a take twice a day every day. i would definetly suggest that you push ya doctor into seeing a specialist as there is help out there you can reiceve. i have a daughter she is 18months old i to had fears about coping when she was born. but my child keeps me going through the pain if it wasnt for her i wouldnt get out of bed most days.

Hi Steven, Ive been on diclofenac for approx 14 yrs and although I don't leap out of bed in the morning because of it, I can bloody feel it if I dont take it. Im also taking co-codamol though and am concerned that its gonna stop helping soon. Codeine doesn't tend to agree with my stomach so anything stronger may hurt me : (

Hi Kylee, before I was diagnosed (10 yrs old) they insisted that I had growing pains to. Does anyone know of anyone that actually had growing pains? Or are these pains a myth? lol

When I was 1st on diclofenac they didn't really work for me. Then the nurse at rhumie clinic told me to ask my GP for the slow release ones. And these seem to keep me on a fairly constant even keel. I think we were all told that we had growing pains but obviously in some these were warning signs. I remember going to see my GP when I was about 18 because my knees hurt and creaked and cracked a lot. He said " you will probably get Arthritis when you get older ". !!

hi ppl the cocodamols workin just now i didnt think diclofenac was doing anything but everyones saying it works so its kl i hate taking tabs but gotta be done for the pain i get confused about the whole 8 tabs in 24 hours thing lol dont laugh if for instance yesterday i took 2 cocodamol at 10.00 then 14.30 then 18.30 then 22.30 thts my doses spaced out by 4 hours lyk the doc tells you to do but im wonderin its says u dont take more than 8 in 24hrs but its now 11.14 the following day and i duno if i shud be takin any cocodamol as my last dosage was last nyt at 22.30 and tht was only about 13hrs ago so obvs thts not 24hrs ago??????? bit confused

its depressing to think how much i rely on meds just to get me through the day. Its just remembering to stay positive isnt it. Very easy to dwell on it!

hI Steven, welcome to our fab forum, lots lovely people in here, regards your hip, if u need a new hip, age shouldnt have any thing to do with it...because that wld mean that u have to wait35/40 years b4 they offer u one?? Some surgeons i know wont do it, but some will, if u r in agony, seems u r to me, and if your Body needs a new hip, then U deserve one...U must tell them how horrific it is, plus as u get older, surely it going to get worse? Y should u suffer that in your young years, its bad enuff getting old lolol....seriously, U can fight for a new Hip, if they genuinely know U need one....some last 20 years, but at least U get 20 years of qaulity pain free like Now, that is what is important...plus u r having a new baby, U need to have that hip done, i know ppl that have had that done as young as 25, and 32......its a case of being tough with them about what u want......and what U need! dont suffer now.... bet u did a lot of footie and rugby as a kid...O.A. is wear and tear of the joints...fight for your rights......its becos the NHS dont want to spend dosh on peeps, thats all........no other reason, accept that u will have to have it replaced years into your future, but hey, so what, technology is getting beter all the time......stay pos....go see a Rhumatologist, Gps dont know as much or specialise in rhumatlogy field....goood luck.....Jill
