hi jill i have had RA 32years now and gone through lots of different meds but was so bad in earlier years that looked into what i was eating and found certain foods were causing me to be in agony, love my fruit but just cant bear the reaction, glad to have others to talk to as i have had no support here in ireland, my brother has said for along time i would be better in england as i would have gotten some of my joints replaced or operated on, but have just got on with it on my own, how i would have liked some support(like this forum) all those times when i felt i couldnt take anymore of the pain. look forward to all the chats with you all

Hi Sandra, I can't even as much as sniff a tomato and I seize up. I haven't eaten any tomato for at least 6 years. Acid foods cause acid to build up in the joints and cause them to flare. I find cheese another baddy. Still have it now and then coz I love it!

I can't tell yet what, if any foods, cause me to flare up. Am in a lot of pain today yet drank quite moderately (for new year's eve!). Thought of going on a wheat free diet as have heard that can help. Anyone know anything about it?

Seem to remember way back when the American actor James Coburn was suffering with RA [ think his Father did as well ] that he mentioned something about diet being linked to it. Have just googled and found this if anyone is interested :-

Hi Sandra, That's really interesting. I think wheat
allergies are relatively common. I've been meaning to start on my diet but keep getting invited out for meal so a bit tricky at the moment. Let us know the results of your test.

Blimey....Verity is right that is horrendous.....no disrepect but thank god i live here then, so far i have had to have 7 corrective surgery ops, and still need spine nd shoulders done, can u imagine all those ops that i needed, in all different joints on my body, knees, spine, shoulders, hips,, no one could take tht amount of pain if they needed the surgery, and I did, I would have died years ago, due to the shock Im sure, I had two Hips ops in within 7 months of each other.....the pain wad horrific, I do feel for u Sandra, but I wld def get a 2nd opinion about the ops, surely they cant do that, its not right.....last night I was watchinbg a programme called Surgeons....was based in Cork and it was all about brain surgery etc, and how people need such surgery......Y should they make people that have arthritis suffer, its inhumane.....((((hugs for u))))

we should be very careful when making statements about foods .
not all acid foods cause acid build up in the joints, infact its quite the opposite and many acid foods actually turn alkali in the blood and reverse the effects that you are talking about.
i will use apple cider vinigar for the most obvious example.
please do your own research and keep a food diary and a open mind, eveyone is slightly different but psycolocical processes are also a huge factor and should not be overlooked.
we all need to do our own research and take the time to observe our condition moment by moment ,food by food and WRITE IT DOWN!!!!!!
turn this knowledge into wisdom and use it against your disease but always remember ...you have to want to get better.
put the work in guys it will set you free.

Hi Wayno, Im sure everyone here does actually want to to get better!
I agree, Cider Vinegar is very good and dissolves acid build up in the joints but there are only very few acids that do this.
For Cider Vinegar to work though you do have to drink an awful lot of it per day and I found it tough as I was quite young (Ive had this included in my diet previously). Ive also tried to find ways around it and have tried Cider Vinegar capsules but if anything they made me feel worse. I found a product called CherryActive that supposedly does a similar thing and may taste a bit better lol! I havent tried it yet because I can't afford it at the mo but maybe one day! lol

hi verity
i refer you to to my earlier reply in saying that psuedo knowledge is a very dangerous thing especially when placed into an arena such as this forum.
you seem to struggle with tomatos too? i eat at least six whole natural tomatos every morning fried with mushrooms, three poached eggs and either grilled bacon or fish and yet they make me feel magnificent?
it a shame that people may now go away from this forum believing that tomatos are not good for arthritis because of your opinion.
did you ever consider that you are now losing a hugely valuable source of lycopene and essential phytonutrients, anti oxidants from your diet?
i guess the point im trying to make is that we should try the things we want to eat and take note of the effects.
i deliberatly didnt mention any "good" or "bad" foods to eat in my first post because it is a waste of time?
the process is purely subjective and cannot generally be the same for two different people.
what you need to do is KEEP A DIARY and dont dismiss foods on one bad experience.
fear of foods will always cause a reaction!!!!!
we need to be aware that combinations of foods are valuable too and should note how combinatins make us feel too.
write it down and make note of the physical and mental effects of the foods ,the mind is a participant too dont leave it behind.
research research research and yes make sure you do want to get healthy because you can do it!!!
let food be your medicine and stop killing yourself with these wonderfully helpful toxic drugs.
include all foods in your search but do not eat processed foods, do not drink milk it is not high in calcium because due to the protein content your body cannot assimilate the calcium, no point in having it at all.
while im at it , avoid dairy as a course of action as it creates mucus in the membranes of all tissue and increases inflammation.
i dont know anything about the cherry active product that you spoke of but the general rule of thumb is that if its in a bottle or been in a machine, avoid it, it will be full of crap and very damaging.
avoid sugar at all costs !!!!
sugar is a deadly toxin to the body but it makes so much money no one gives a shit and it tastes good too?
it is killing you!!!!
make sure you check out your nutritional typing and only eat good whole food as nature intended.
there was no disease when nature was in charge!!
do you see a link here people?
eat natural food and be healthy, so simple.
keep a diary and put some effort in to it , its your body now and its poorly treat it with some respect and stop looking for easy ways out , tonic this, tincture that, drug this excuses that.
revert back to the way the body was nourished before people in industrialised nations had disease, can that be any simpler?
toxin free pesticide free rodenticide free, flouride free, heavy metals free , sugar free un processed natural good wholesome food.
all disease is due to a lack of nourishment or a toxicity,FACT!!!!!
sorry verity most of the comments are not aimed at you personally but you have to take note folks because this is where its at!!
find out and make the effort to be the cure.
all my love from the cured,
wayno.

OH MY GOD! I truly cannot believe you have come on this forum and said all that! How can you possibly generalise everyone like that? What about people with Cancer that have never smoked in their lives? Is that their 'fault' too?
For a start, this thread begins with 'do anyone find that certain foods cause a flare up'. Surely any answers to this question is personal to each individual.
Im very happy for you, ecstatic even that you can eat tomatoes. You must be very happy and have a more wholesome life because of it. Obviously. Are you gonna tell people that are allergic to peanuts to stop being stupid too? Also, you say that people will make decisions on my opinion but what you dont seem to realise is that, this website is here so everyone can share what happens to them. This is what happens to ME. And Ive never once said otherwise. It appears that youre the one that is telling people what to do with all your dos donts and accusations of an easy way out.
Im amazed at some of the things youve said and the sheer insincerity and ignorance for other peoples feelings and opinions.
Im gonna stop now as youre actually making me angry.
