Hi Krystal, I have RA all over my body from jaw to toes. Unfortunately I don't find pain killers to be of much use. I turn everything into mini challenges otherwise the thought of the pain is too much. I find relaxation can be helpful if you have the time to do it!
May I ask how old you are and how long youve been feeling bad?

Hi Krystal I have had RA for over twenty years. It started off in my hands and feet and graddually more and more joints got affected till its pretty much everywhere. Ive been on most of the drugs you can have for RA at one stage or another. I've had a hip replacement four years ago. It made such a difference to my mobility. I'm now on an Anti TNF drug called enbrel. Its been the best meds so far i've gained more mobility and have less pain. Its not a cure but it gave me quaility of life back.
My rheumy told me way back in the begining if i did'nt use it i would lose it. DSo I try to stay posative and do as much as my body will allow without overdoing it or getting too tired. It takes practise but you will find your limit. Take it slowly at first and bulid up gradually you'll soon find out when you've done too much. I take my dog for a walk and try to do a little bit of house work every other day. When having a flare up don;t push your slef keep warm and rest up till it passes. The main thing is to try and stay posative which can be a challenge in itself when your in pain.
Good luck and take care

Hi Krystal
I've also just been diagnosed, it stems from me having pain in my lower back(or so I thought, but apparently it is in my buttocks)and what I thought was initially carpal tunnel syndrome but then seemed to develop into tennis elbow, in both arms. I would have thought it would only be in the most used arm, but apprently it is more usual to get it in both. I'm never sure whether I should be doing stretches or not, as I'm not sure whether they do good or whether I should rest. So much info seems to conflict?

Carpal Tunnel is apprently the first signs of artha....after my first baby was born, I had the most terrible pain, Had both Hands operated on at Kings college in London, Carpal tunnel, Op was horrendous, took ages to recover from that, and having a new born , it was not easy, however, never had probs with carpal tunnel since, thank god!....mind u, doenst mean it cant come back, even tho had the ops.....carpal tunnel can get so severe, the pain can travel up your arms, and hands and fingers are totally Numb...and U cannot sleep, gets worse when lying down..... hope u dont have that Luigi.

Hmm, the symptoms do seem sililar to carpal tunnel Jill..it is worse at night and can wake me up, annoying as I absolutely LOVE sleeping. I cannot get my arms comfy because wherever I try to put them the 'funny bone' by each elbow seems to touch a surface and gives me that horrible tingling sensation. It Doesnt help that I can only sleep on my back.

also shaking your arms to get the feeling back is a typical symptom too.... worse at night due to the compression on the meridian nerve running thru your wrist into the hand....there r tests for carpal tunnel btw, dont suffer, have it checked out...goood luck Luigi x
